It feels surreal to pause and reflect on a journey that has spanned 25 years—a journey filled with stories, lessons, and profound moments that have shaped who I am today.
Sixteen of those years were spent at CNN, a place that challenged me, pushed me to grow and gave me the platform to tell stories that matter.
When I started in journalism, I didn’t fully grasp the power of storytelling. But over the years, I’ve seen how stories can change the world. They can give a voice to the voiceless, hold the powerful accountable, and inspire hope where it is needed most. I’ve had the privilege of being a part of these moments, and for that, I am deeply grateful.
Stories That Shaped Me
Of all the stories I’ve covered, the kidnapping of the Chibok schoolgirls stands out as a defining moment. It wasn’t just a story—it was a call to action. Bringing the proof of life video to the world wasn’t easy, but it was necessary.
It reminded me of the responsibility we bear as journalists to uncover truths, amplify unheard voices, and fight for justice.
There were other moments too—interviewing global leaders, covering critical events, and seeing firsthand the resilience of communities across Africa. Each story taught me something new about humanity, about courage, and about the importance of telling the truth, no matter how uncomfortable it may be.
The CNN Chapter
My time at CNN wasn’t just a job; it was a transformative chapter of my life. It allowed me to tell Africa’s stories on a global stage, challenging stereotypes and showing the world the beauty, complexity, and strength of our continent. From field reporting to high-profile interviews, every experience deepened my understanding of the world and strengthened my commitment to impactful storytelling.
I am incredibly proud of the work I accomplished during those years—work that has earned recognition, from an Emmy and a Peabody to the trust and respect of my peers and audiences around the globe. But more than the awards, it’s the stories that will stay with me forever—the people I met, the lives I touched, and the truths I uncovered.
Looking Ahead
As I close this chapter and step into the next, I carry with me a renewed sense of purpose. Storytelling remains at the heart of what I do, but my vision has expanded. With SBB Media, I’m committed to empowering others to tell their stories—stories that inspire change, build legacies, and challenge the narratives that have held us back for too long.
I want to thank everyone who has been a part of this journey—my colleagues, mentors, and the countless individuals who trusted me to tell their stories. To the next generation of journalists and storytellers: the world needs your voice. Step forward boldly, tell the stories that matter, and know that you have the power to change the world.
Here’s to 25 years of learning, growing, and storytelling—and to the future that lies ahead. The best stories are yet to come.
