Storytelling has been at the core of who I am for as long as I can remember. It’s more than my profession—it’s my purpose.
Over 25 years in journalism, including 16 years at CNN, I’ve witnessed firsthand how a single story can shift perceptions, spark change, and empower communities.
One of the most defining moments of my career was obtaining the proof of life video of the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls, which showed they were still alive long after the world had forgotten about them.
That story wasn’t just about journalism; it was about demanding the world’s attention for an issue that couldn’t be ignored. It taught me the power of authentic, impactful storytelling—and it reinforced my belief that Africa’s stories deserve to be told by its people.
Now, as I step into a new chapter with SBB Media, my mission is clear: to transform the way Africa’s stories are told. I want to inspire, equip, and empower a generation of storytellers who will carry the torch forward, shining a light on the beauty, resilience, and innovation of our continent.
Laying the Foundation
In the first year of this journey, my goal is to train 500 storytellers across Africa. These are the voices who will produce 100 impactful storytelling projects that celebrate our rich narratives—projects that highlight our culture, creativity, and boundless potential.
This is about more than numbers; it’s about igniting a movement. Every storyteller trained, and every project produced, is a step toward reclaiming our narrative and ensuring that our stories are told authentically and with purpose.
Building a Legacy
I’ve always believed that true impact is measured over the long term. That’s why my vision doesn’t stop with immediate goals. Over the next five years, I’m working to build a self-sustaining storytelling academy—a place where African storytellers can learn, collaborate, and innovate.
This academy isn’t just a training ground; it’s a community. A network of 10,000 storytellers across the continent, working together to influence global perceptions of Africa through authentic, high-quality narratives. Together, we’ll rewrite the story of Africa—not as a continent of challenges, but as a place of resilience, opportunity, and progress.
Why This Matters
Storytelling is powerful because it allows us to see the world through someone else’s eyes. But for too long, Africa’s stories have been told by others, often through a lens that doesn’t reflect who we truly are. It’s time for that to change.
Through SBB Media, I’m committed to helping individuals, organisations, and governments craft impactful narratives. Whether through media reports, documentaries, books, or other storytelling platforms, my goal is simple: to ensure that Africa’s voice is heard loud and clear on the global stage.
Join Me on This Journey
This isn’t just my vision—it’s a shared mission. It’s about all of us coming together to celebrate our stories, amplify our voices, and create a legacy that will inspire generations to come.
If you believe in the power of storytelling to drive change, I invite you to join me. Whether you’re a budding storyteller, a leader with a story to tell, or an organisation looking to make an impact, there’s a place for you in this movement.
Together, we can transform narratives, challenge stereotypes, and show the world what Africa truly stands for. This is only the beginning—and I can’t wait to see what we’ll achieve.
Let’s tell the stories that matter. Let’s change the world— one story at a time.
